This shophouse located at the opposite end of Julan Petaling, was previously the guild of the Selangor and Federal Territory Laundry Association, which still retained many of its original features such as the half door at the front entrance, the stairway and the back door with its wooden locking devices. Many of the original furnishings, including the pulley lights, feng shui (geomancy) mirrors, marble top tables and bentwood chairs are the ambiences evocative of the 1930s. The silverware was previously belonged to the prestigious E&O Hotel in Penang. The café serves Nyonya food, a cuisine of the Peranakan or Straits Chinese, the descendants of early Chinese-Malay intermarriages.

Restoran Sin Seng Nam (新盛南中西茶餐室)
(LRT Masjid Jamek)
The block of shophouses located at No 2-6 Medan Pasar was designed by AK Moosdeen around 1906, which was sometimes referred to as “the red house” owing to its distinctive exposed red brick, which has since been painted over. Although designed as a whole, each shophouse façade is treated differently with the alternating window designs. In 1908, the block was extended to include No 8.
The corner shophouse, Sin Seng Nam Restaurant, has very fine stepped Dutch gables. Note the interesting entryways where wooden bars serve as security doors and also provide ventilation.
